LAGOS — Members of NECA’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), Lagos Chapter, gathered at 234 Loft Resort, Elegushi Beach, Lekki, on Thursday, September 24, 2026, for “September to Remember,” an outing that combined health conversations, networking, relaxation and entertainment.
Hosted by the Chairperson of NNEW Lagos, Dr. Ekaete Aniekan Etiebet, the event was held under the theme, “Thriving In & Out: Mental & Sexual Health,” bringing members together for conversations on issues affecting their mental, emotional, physical and sexual wellbeing.
The event also featured the participation of the NNEW Lagos Healthcare Sector, headed by Prof. Kehinde Umeizudike, with health and wellness forming a major part of the day’s activities.
A key highlight was a panel session moderated by the Chairman of the NNEW Governing Council, Mrs. Fayo Williams. The panel featured Dr. Yemisi Akpan, Mrs. Monica Zunny-Abu and Mr. Tonye Briggs, who shared insights on mental health, addiction, relationships, personal development and sexual health.
The panel discussion examined the pressures women face in different areas of life, including family, business, relationships and personal responsibilities. Speakers emphasized the importance of paying attention to mental and emotional wellbeing and seeking professional support when necessary.
Addiction was another major area of discussion. Participants were reminded that addiction can involve both substance use and behavioural patterns, including excessive social media use and other compulsive activities. Members were encouraged to identify possible triggers and seek professional assistance where required.
The discussion also covered stress and depression, with speakers highlighting the role of healthy lifestyle choices, physical activity, social connections, adequate exposure to sunlight and proper nutrition in supporting overall wellbeing.
Sexual health and relationships also received attention, with members encouraged to become more informed about their health and to have open and responsible conversations around issues affecting their wellbeing.
The speakers further discussed the different seasons of a woman’s life and the importance of maintaining a sense of purpose and connection as circumstances change. The issue of empty nest syndrome was also discussed, with women encouraged to embrace new opportunities for personal growth, career development and meaningful social connections.
Entrepreneurship was another important aspect of the conversation. Women interested in starting businesses were encouraged to identify their target audience, understand their customers’ needs and begin with available resources rather than waiting for large amounts of capital. Starting small and growing gradually was highlighted as a practical approach.
The event also featured an awareness session on gender and sexual violence, drawing attention to the importance of recognizing violence and seeking appropriate support and intervention.
Away from the formal discussions, members had ample opportunity to relax and enjoy the resort. The waterfront provided a scenic backdrop as members took in the view of the water, while some participated in swimming.
An aerobic session added an energetic touch to the outing, with members joining in physical exercises and enjoying the lively atmosphere. The fun continued with a karaoke session, where members sang, laughed and entertained one another.
Members also enjoyed a good lunch, providing another opportunity for conversation, networking and bonding in a relaxed environment.
The event concluded with recognition and appreciation of the panelists and sponsors who contributed to the success of the programme.
For NNEW Lagos, “September to Remember” provided a balance between learning and leisure, allowing members to discuss important health and personal development issues while also enjoying recreation, networking and sisterhood.
The gathering ended on a cheerful note, leaving members with shared experiences and memories from a day dedicated to thriving in and out.
